SHALL WE HAVE INDIVIDUAL IDENTITY AFTER DEATH.

Image
Science  do not approve life after death. However, man had different concepts of life, after life, soul and heaven since long with us .These concepts are not uniform, but varies in different time, people and region. Most of the people believe that there is an after life; some in the form of rebirth while others believe in a life in heaven or hell.  There are many eminent scientists and philosophers suggest about our self as a distinct one. This self is the one that survives different dimensions of life. And that self is our identity. Psychology do not support this view. Psychologists feel that individuality or self is not firm but a fluid one  shaped differently according to the  external influence. If self can be related with identity, self is a combination of body and brain. If there is a life after death and own memory is carried, naturally identity too is carried forward. In the New Testament, the disciples of Christ, are witnessing those passed away long time ago, Mose

HEAD DOWN FALL OF KERALA IN NATIONAL GAMES

Image
In the recently concluded 36th National Games in Gujarat, the performance of Kerala way really deplorable. While Kerala bagged 54 Gold, 48 Silver and 60 Bronz with a total of 162 medals in the last game of 2015 and stood second in the medal tally, we are placed at the sixth position in the medal tally in the just concluded Games in Gujarat. We could get only 23 Gold, 18 Silver and 13 Bronz with a total of 54 medals. Kerala is behind Services, Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Who is responsible for this pathetic performance? It is athletes, sports department or the government? Undoubtedly it is the government. Primarily, government do not have sufficient money to spend for sports development. The government have no time too to spend for sports as all are busy in politics for one issue or the other. If we continue like this, the problem is not going to be confined to sports but may spread to education, health etc soon. We should now give priority for a multifol

WHAT A VC!!!

Image
The news papers and news channels in Kerala are filled with 'VC'. I think a fair amount of the people are not well aware of this 'VC' affair. Some may be thinking this a new virus like Covid! Some must be taking this as another Kit to be distributed during Diwali festival! All political parties are seriously discussing VC all around as if this issue is the greatest problem Kerala is facing and if this is sorted out all issues of the state will be sorted. The ruling government do not have means to meet the daily expenses. Unfortunately they have no time to discuss and find ways and means pay monthly salary of the employees, repair the damaged roads, get over the dog menace across the state. What a democracy! What a politics! What a VC! And what a comedy! K V George

THE DIVINE BALANCE

Image
(Sri Rishi Sunak choosen to become the next Prime Minister of Britain) Conservative leadership candidate Rishi Sunak, an Indian origin, is all set to become the next Prime Minister of UK. Years before, the British captured our country and ruled it for a long period of time. It was an India of small independent countries ruled by many kings. The people as a whole were poor, illiterate and unhealthy. And now, one man from the same country but united, powerful and literate has been chosen by the powerful and wealthy British to rule them. It is their choice. No one has forced them. Every Indian will pray for the health, wisdom and success of the new British Prime Minister and the Prosperity of Britain! K V George

WHAT A DEMOCRATIC POWER!

Image
What a democracy we have in our our country! Elected representative of the people slapping at the face of the one who elected him! And the victim is a widow! Surprisingly, after committing the cruelty upon helpless one the  accused minister is reported to have said that he has not committed any error, however, he say sorry for it! The video of the heinous act has instantly circulated all over and the people have seen whether he has committed anything wrong. Later the so called victim is reported to have said that the minister didn't slap her but only patted her! How a powerful one can manipulate things! Still he remains as a minister! Democracy in its real terms! We have hundreds of Women's Organizations standing strongly to support the helpless women of our country. Unfortunately no reaction from anywhere so far! It all happened sometimes back. And now things are going smooth. The women are happy! The Minister is happy! Why should we have women's organisations

(Image of a German University) There are 24 countries including Germany, France, Switzerland, UK, Sweden, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Austria, Netherlands,  Norway, Japan, Ireland, Finland, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Israel and New Zealand providing free health care to all their citizens.  Education has become something like a rich commodity in many countries in the world. Education has become beyond the reach of common man in many parts of the world. In the same world we can find the following countries offering free education for all. Those countries are Germany, Norway, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. Amongst them Germany offers 100% fees exemption for international students too. Some of their Universities have offered English language as medium of instruction for international students. According to Mercer CFA Institute Global Pension Index 2020,  39 countries including India is giving old age pension to their citizens. K V George

WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF CONGRESS PARTY

Image
(Image courtesy - Pallavi Ghosh) In the first Look Sabha election Congress secured 364 seats out of a total of 489 seats. Surprisingly the second position went to independents with 37 seats. As a total contradiction to this, congress have a mere 53 seats in the current Lok Sabha. What made the party to go for this head down fall?  In fact no one else caused this. It is a self made one. Unfortunately the fall is on to a no return point. To make it more clear, it can be said that now the party is like a large passenger ship in a turbulent sea with no captain. If someone is there to offer himself to lead the ship no one will support it, as if all are waiting together for the ship to sink. The party is filled with groups and sub-groups aimed at nowhere. Bringing back the party to the central stage is near impossible task under the present circumstances.  If someone offers a helping hand, it is for their own sake. It will do no good for the Congress party. For instance, the com

ROBOTIC SURGERY

Image
(Surgical room) The  first recorded robot assisted surgical procedure was in 1985 when the PUMA 560 robotic surgical arm was used in a  delicate neurosurgical biopsy, a non-laparoscopic surgery. Then in 1988 PROBOT was used to perform transurethral prostate surgery. In 1992 an image guided system named Robodic Surgical System was developed for the use in prosthetic hip replacement. This was the only robotic system cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the use in orthopaedic surgery. In 1996 the AESOP 2000, replaced the pedals with a voice control system, allowing the surgeon to have control of the endoscope. By using its voice, the system eliminated the necessity of an assistant to hold the endoscope. The platform evolved to AESOP 3000 increasing the degree of freedom, and had its final platform with the AESOP HR (HERMES Ready) having integrated voice control and functions such as operation room lighting and movement of the operation table.

WHY SASI THAROOR IS REJECTED BY CONGRESS IN KERALA?

Image
Answer for this question is too simple. Sri Tharoor has more academic qualifications than many of the contemporary congress men in Kerala. He held positions that may cause jealousy to some of them. Above all he possesses more knowledge than many of his competitors. And certainly he might be considered by many as the most competent candidate for today's Congress party. While these remain the facts, the fellow Congress politicians in the senior cadres do not want to admit it as in many other similar cases. However, they all know that under the present circumstances Tharoor would be the ideal president to lead this self ruined party. Let us wait for the last minute surprise! K V George

HUMAN SACRIFICE IN KERALA

Image
Two women were murdered in Kerala and the flesh were cooked and eaten by the killers and their associates. This killing was in the name of human sacrifice ( Narabali)  and by now this news has been spread across the whole country and most part of the world. Most surprising is that this heinous crime has taken place in a state that claims to be the highest literate in the country. Alas! What made these to happen here! Infact, it is nothing but misconstrued religious beliefs, disarrayed educational system and atrocities caused by outdated political philosophies prevailing in our country are those persuading such crimes in this so called literate state. If we want to do any corrections, we must start from the grass roots level aiming at the coming generations. We must also ensure stringent punishments for the culprits. It is also necessary that people should be encouraged to report any such suspicious things around them. Over and above these, we must think whether we should co

OVERCOME NEGLIGENCE OF TOURISM IN KERALA (Part II)

The tourists visited should be seen as our most loved and cared guests. People should be advised through all avail

OVERCOME NEGLIGENCE OF TOURISM IN KERALA (Part I)

Image
For reasons unknown, the state of Kerala is not giving due significance to tourism industry. Though the state is limping on the economic front, probably due to the managerial deficiencies,  no result oriented efforts are being taken for the optimum utilisation of available resources to bring up the revenue. After fuel and chemicals, tourism is the one that brings export earnings in the world. About 10% of the GDP of the world is generated from Tourism Industry. Kerala ranked 9th in the must visit eco tourism spots in the world list of 2022. US magazine has praised this God's Own Country for its spectacular beaches, backwaters, lush green inland, temples, palaces etc as must visit sites. Time magazine has shortlisted Kerala among 50 must explore destinations in the world in 2022. Though others show positive gestures to place Kerala as beautiful must see destination in the world, we ourselves prefer as much silence as possible. Despite having an outstanding tourism menu,

SHOULD THE GOVERNMENT STOP GAMBLING IN INDIA?

Image
Should the government stop gambling in India? The answer must be a straight 'yes'. Gambling in India is governed by the Gambling Act of 1867. Some states like Goa, Daman and Diu, Sikkim etc exempted from the Gambling Act. However online gambling is not covered by the above act. Whether it is online or offline,  gambling is gambling and the impact is negative and destructive. There are news reports about children committing suicides after losing money in online gambling. There are many families gone to shambles after the heavy loss of money. Despite all these happening in our society our elected representatives do not take it to the parliament and ensure framing stringent law to ward off all sorts of gambling including the online gambling from our country. The people trust them that they will do as deemed fit as early as possible. K V George

REAL AND IMAGINARY LITERACY

Image
As  per the available data the current literacy rate of India is 77.70% . Among the states Kerala holds the top position with 94%. While going through the ratings of education given by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) based on graduation or post graduation or professional courses within the age group between 25 and 64 years among the population the top ten countries with their ratings are given below. Canada 56.27% Japan 50.50% Israel 49.90% S. Korea 46.86% UK 45.96% USA 45.67% Australia 43.74% Finland 43.60% Norway 43.02% Luxembourg 42.86% As per the survey by another agency India ranks 72 in the world in education. However  as shown above we rated ourselves high in literacy. Since our own literacy rating is either imaginary or mythical, this cannot be compared with the ratings of advanced countries. We may, therefore, restructure our literacy ratings gradually to much higher level. At present the standard set for literacy seems to be that o

FURNITURE FROM SEA WEEDS

Image
(African Payal (weeds) above)  (Furniture from sea weeds, made in South Korea- above) After extensive research, Dutch designer Nienke Hoogliet developed Sea Me, a collection of modern and sustainable furniture from sea weeds. In South Korea there are many products brought out from sea weeds. There are production units engaged in the manufacture of furniture in South Korea. They also use sea weeds for food supplements, health products, cosmetics etc  Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute has cultivated about 34,000 MT sea weeds in the coastal areas of India in 2021. It is said to have a price over Rs 950/- per kg (to be got verified). Now we may get into the water hyacinth called African Payal in Malayalam. The scientific name of this is Eichhornia Crassipes or Salvinia Auriculate.  These weeds are thickly spread over the entire backwaters of Kerala. These are said to be used for baskets, curtains, furniture etc. Qualified youth of

CM's VISIT ON EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Image
While the Chief Minister of Kerala is visiting Finland and some other European countries with the intention of development of education in the state is appreciable, how much could be adopted from there is to be that matters. The prime factor in education in Finland is that no University of that country is asking for tution fees upto post graduation level. If that could be implemented in this state a good number of students will be benefitted. More important than anything else, if three assurances can be given by the government, it would be a blessing more worthier than any other development in education. Attention of state and central government is kindly drawn to the following for implementation on top most priority. 1. Eradicate narcotics from all educational institutions. 2. Remove all political activities from all educational institutions. Stoppage of classes should not be allowed under any circumstances. 3. Following subjects may be included in the school syllabus from

NARCOTICS - A PARALLEL ECONOMY

Image
This 1476 crores worth catch must be the highest value single catch in India. The value of the seized goods is more than the annual budget of some of our states a few decades ago. According to the media reports this was resulted from some secret information, possibly by some private source. It cannot be, therefore, considered as the first transaction by the party or this is the only party doing this trade. As per available information only about one third of the incoming containers are examined in details by customs. This may encourage the smugglers to take the risk. While going through the media reports one is constrained to conclude that the narcotics trade is mounting quite fast. May be for a number of reasons the authorities concerned are unable to catch up with them. As per the media reports, while the government agency is trying to locate one of the suspected through Interpol, the media representative has contacted him and gathered information. It may be d

RICE PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA

Image
As per the available report of 2019 the highest rice producing countries in the world are in Asia. They are: 1. China 211 Million Tonnes 2. India 178 MT 3. Indonesia and Bengladesh 55 MT each. Rice yield generally varies from country to country. While average rice yield in China is 2630 kg per acre, it is 3050 kg in India and in Missouri (USA) it is 3460 kg in 2021.(Data compiled from different sources) These variations in output  could be due to different reasons like geography, climate, quality of seeds etc. However, the technology applied could also be a significant cause. As of 2021 we have 3 Central Agricultural Universities, 4 Deemed Universities and 63 State Agricultural Universities in India. About 4 lakhs students are studying for various courses in agriculture in India now. The rates of employment of students pass out from agricultural colleges every year is not known. However there is annual increase of deployment by about 3 to 4% all over India. Now, the concern
