SYRO MALABAR CHURCH IS HEADING TO A SPLIT?
Many untoward incidents have taken place around the church in the recent past. Since all those who are related to the Church know these, counting of those one by one may be a repetition. Observances and ceremonies are gaining significance over the word of Christ since long in the Church. Gradually church is gaining momentum over Jesus Christ and the Holy Book. Sathyagraha against the head of the Church by priests, armed tussle among the believers in front of the office of the head of the Church, pushing out the priest from the altar while performing the Holy Mass etc are unheard of in the Church.
The Catholic Church has done their best since long to misinterpret the Holy Gospels and impose rites over the words. A large number of so called faithful have been mislead by the system. A large section of the people are closing the Sanctum Sanctorum by a curtain while others have removed the curtain for ever. While Mar Thoma cross is placed on the credence table during Holy Mass by one section, others do not keep the cross. Can these be made a uniform observance? For a paltry sum to help a poor one, priests use to make lengthy speeches in a pathetic manner for collection of money. As per media reports the police have captured about Rs 6,000/- crores from a Bishop House of the Church. For unknown reasons, the Church has so far not come out to explain the current status of the money to the people who are the real owners of the money. It is painful to say that the Church now functions like a corporate entity.
While the people as a whole have indisputable and never ending reverence and love for the Pope and the Holy See, many of the believers find it difficult to go hand in hand with the priesthood. The priesthood may therefore, accept Jesus Christ and His words and come down to the people with the Lord. The entire priesthood are requested to do their best to avoid a split in Syro Malabar Church. The common folk have nothing to do in this issue. Please do not allow to repeat in Syro Malabar Church what is being happened between Jacobite and Orthodox Churches.
