CRIMINALS IN COLLEGES

For best known to politicians educational institutions in India have been turned into political training centres. For one reason or the other, but mainly from political causes, campus violences take place quite frequently.   Since 2000 the number of political murders in Kerala alone is 172. A few condolence meetings, pasting posters all over, preventing the movement of vehicles on the road etc are the general reactions after each political murders. Till now no one has said that we should stop the killing.

When we talk about the violence in colleges the prime question to be answered is who is bound to protect the students from violence within the colleges or from outside. Is it by the students themselves, the teachers and staff together, the management or wait for the police to come. The next question would be why should there be a violence. In case of any problems, usually there are umpeen methods to sort it out. Without choosing any such ways attacking and killing is not at all a solution. While schools and colleges are to impart knowledge a good chunk of students choose to involve themselves into political activities by creating lawlessness around. They are generally provided external support from political parties and thugs.

Mainly the elections under political banner is the root cause of violence in college campus. There are for and against arguments about politics in colleges. Most of the students enter into the college not to learn politics. Politics is brought into by external elements. The educationists and sociologists of the country may sit together and find ways and means to end violence in campus. The most ideal solution would be the establishment of a National Political University with affiliated colleges in all states. Those who like to choose politics as their career can attend these colleges and can have political election and all allied activities.  It should be confined to their colleges and under no circumstances should allowed to penetrate into other colleges. All students in other colleges may be allowed to pursue their respective studies except politics. Any election, if at all necessary, conducted in these colleges should not be under any political banner. Let us jointly find an end to campus politics.
