TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT IN KERALA

Since 1947 both central and state governments have offered a number of developmental projects to bring up the quality of life of the Scheduled Tribes. Unfortunately it remains to be in a deplorable state in the whole country. The state of Kerala too is not an exception. When we compare the quality of life of the tribal population with the people from the mainstream of the society one can easily notice that the gap is widening from decade to decade. Whether in the case of housing or health or education or in other basic human needs most of the people are in a very pathetic condition. The state of Kerala as a whole can be ranked with developed countries in education, health, life expectancy, basic amenities, quality of food etc. Contrary to these achievements of those in the mainstream our brethren from the tribal population are leading a life par below. We, from the higher strata of the society, are bound to help them liberally. According to the available information Kerala has over o

DISPARITY IN CATHOLIC CEMETERY

"Leave the dead to bury their dead; it is for thee to go out and proclaim God's kingdom." (Luke 9:60) Jesus Christ tells that there is nothing in the remnant of the human body after the departure of life from it. It is worth for nothing, so the dead will bury their dead. Galatians 3:28 further clarifies equality in Christianity. "No more Jew or Gentile, no more slave and free man, no more male and female;  you are all one person in Jesus Christ." Both these verses from the Holy Book denote Christian out look on man, either living or dead. However, this equality cannot be maintained anywhere in the world by any religion. The big and the small are appropriately placed, therefore, in Christianity too. It becomes extreme when this disparity is dragged to the cemetery after death. The dead body of the rich is placed in a rich tomb and the poor in a poor tomb. The rich tomb is decorated with precious marbles while the body of the poor is heaped with earth. The pl

TAXING THE PEOPLE OF INDIA

Collec tion of taxes from the people is not a modern introduction by the governments. During the period of Pharaohs in Egypt there were tax collectors called scribes. They were also visiting houses to ensure that taxed items were used by all people. There were custom duties for goods imported and exported during the time of Augustus Caesar in Rome. We can find taxation in the history of almost all nations. In India people used to pay taxes to the ruling kings in the form of agricultural products. In the modern history of India King Akbar abolished many forms of taxes to give relief to the people. However during the post independent era of our country the state and central governments are vying with each other to tax the people the maximum possible. According to the current union budget the sum expected from tax revenue is over 19 lakh crores. This tax money is not paid by the people with love or happiness or contentment. It is rather squeezed out from the people. Though the tax paymen

OIL PRICES IN INDIA

There is something seriously wrong in price fixing of oil in India. Oil being the fundamental component that determines the prices of all other goods and services the central government must have a relook on the matter. From the available resources I am placing the diesel prices in some selected countries on 28 Aug 2017 in US $ Iran 0.9, Saudi Arabia 0.12, Myanmar 0.49, Malaysia 0.49, Vietnam 0.61, Sri Lanka 0.62, Afghanistan 0.64, USA 0.67, Indonesia 0.68, Nepal 0.72, Pakistan 0.74, Thailand 0.75, Bhutan 0.88, China 0.88 and INDIA 0.93. (Since I am wholly depending upon the source through which these prices are collected I do not vouch for total accuracy. You may verify and confirm the actual prices) It can be seen from these figures that our price is much on the higher side than almost all Asian countries. Each one of you may add up the components of cost as you can in the following manner. Purchase price of crude + Shipping charges to Indian ports + Handling charges + Refinery

DEMONETISATION - A RIDDLE

The BJP government at the centre suddenly announced the withdrawal of currency notes of ₹ 1000 and ₹ 500 denominations from circulation. 15.28 lakhs worth such notes were disappeared from circulation. People all over the country faced huge inconveniences. The Prime Minister and Finance Mister kept telling the people that this action was for a good purpose, the betterment of the economy, the progress of the nation and so on. Now the Finance Minister says that 99% of the withdrawn money has come back to the government. In the remaining 1%,  the return from the cooperative banks and from Nepal are to be accounted for. The left over will be, therefore, much less than 1%. It now remains to be a myth or a riddle for the people, as to what was the purpose of the demonetisation. Even those who are in the financial field are baffling in the matter. The people are interpreting this midnight operation in different ways. Some think this was done to favour some selected business men. Some others t
