Normal And Abnormal

WHILE leaving the sports arena after 24 years of stainless service for the game of cricket Sachin Tendulkar could install himself in the hearts of millions of people all over the world. Countless numbers of them bid him adieu with tears, love and reverence. A sport person, a politician, a film actor,  or a public servant when leave their respective field of activity people will always give them a due farewell from their heart if their service was sincere, dedicated and spotless. Man reached great heights ! History says so and we all say together. But dog reached greater height !! 'Rupy', a dog, that too an under fed street dog, reached the base camp of Everest, a height of 5364 Metres, on the very first attempt. A South African lady named Jovan Leffson picked the dog from the waste heap of a street and took  it to the top of the mountain on 26th of Oct last. Of course, the lady had cared the dog very well. H ow many of us can say that we too can endevour this? Let us, therefore, not ignore or neglect any one any where. A Grandma who is in her nineties was left in the premise of the Guruvayoor temple a couple of weeks ago by her offspring!  If this is considered as a' Thulabharam' for the Lord there is nothing that can be placed on the scale to lift the offer! Even the globe with all is in, if placed, cannot lift her because she is the globe itself, she is the universe and she is the God Herself !! W here is the so called humanity gone?  Where is the age old Indian culture gone ? Is this the literate Malayalee ? I n earlier times the Malayalam text book for class-I opened with the word - Amma - ( Mother). The endless love for the mother was prescribed in all classes either in the form of a story or poem. All that is faded away  and new shining colours have come up. 'Me and my Mother' is replaced by 'Me and Me' !!! KVGeorge Kerala, India.

Scores of  Padma awards are given year after year. Principal beneficiaries of these awards are from the film industry, sports arena  and literary field. Most of the citizens of our country do not know the criterion for these awards and also do not know as to which category of people these are confined to. Fish catchers, pan walas,  priests, coolies, hotel boys, house maids etc are seldom rather never selected for these awards despite exemplary contributions in their respective fields.  A former Distt. Collector, an IAS man, who with rare bravery unearthed a shady deal worth of Rs 900 crores and helped to put the culprits behind the bars, too may not be considered for these so called awards!!
